I Love Guitars!

I love the way they look, I love the way they feel, but most of all, I love the way they sound.

And over the years I've learned that I love helping folks get started with this gorgeous instrument. So whether you're a teenager with a rock 'n'roll heart or a middle-aged folkie who just wants to strum on the front porch, this site is designed to give you the information you need to pick the guitar that's right for you.

You'll hear this a lot from me:
If at all possible

Try the Guitar Before You Buy!

If your new guitar doesn't feel right - or look right - or sound right - you won't play it. It's that simple.

Getting started:

You have two decisions to make right away

And you'll also hear this many times from me:

If you really want to play in a band, learn Bass

Technical Stuff

I've included a fair amount of information on the way guitars actually work. If you find this helpful, use it to your advantage in making a decision.

I love it, but I know it's not for everybody.

Did I mention I Love Guitars?

Well, I’ve played lead & rhythm in more rock ‘n’ roll bands than I can remember, I’ve strummed in coffee houses, I’ve played bass in some killer rhythm sections. Manys the night I’ve pulled out my favorite six-string and the next thing I know the birds are chirping while sunlight leaks through the curtains.

A number of years ago I went to work for a major guitar chain on the East Coast and, man, did I learn a thing or two about these gorgeous instruments. But the hours were long, the conditions not always so friendly, and my feet started getting real tired so I moved on to another line of work.

Now I’d like to pass on some of what I’ve learned over the years to those of you just starting out. These days there’s certainly no lack of instruments to choose from but where do you begin? This site is designed to explain what to look for as well as what to avoid. I’ll even feature specific recommendations in each price category.

Rock on,
Strum on,
Pluck on,

Robert
